The story behind the work
I’m Carla, a Dubai-based family photographer and a mother to a three-year-old.
My work explores memory, motherhood and the idea of the visual family archive: the gift of photography throughout the years and how photographs become part of the way we remember people, childhood and the different chapters of our lives.
I’m drawn to the honesty of documentary and vernacular photography, while also bringing an editorial eye to the way I photograph people and their surroundings. I work with both digital and film, looking for the details, rituals and relationships that make each family uniquely yours.
